Evaluation Question 2.

CD Digipack

Music Magazine Advertisment

Music Video

Anchor 3

Music Video Below

Within the project I have had an aim to make sure that the Cd digipack and the Music magazine has a strong link, because the music magazine is aiming to promote the digipack, meaning there must be some method of linking the two mediums together so that the audience see the advertisement and instantly think of the Digipack. I believe that the advertisement and digipack do have a link and the combination as the two works very well together and have a clear theme without being too similar and lacking creativity, and distinction between the two products.

The first way in which I have created a link between the cd digipack and the Music magazine is through the fonts used for the artist name and the album name. On both of the products I have used the same font, this will allow the products to start creating a common association with the font and the artist, already the combination of the two is having a great effect as they instantly should make the audience think of the artist. On both of the product I have used the image of the artist. In both of the products I have used the artist wearing the same clothing and this creates an identity for the artist and with his already established fan base it will reinforce the artist identity, we also know as he is wearing the same clothing that the music magazine is clearly trying to advertise the album.

On both of the products I have used the same general theme despite using slightly different colour schemes. On the digipack I used the artist waving his hands in front of his face so you saw multiple in the actual image. I have carried this ideology forward in to the Music magazine where we see multiple images on the artist. This gives a clear subjective link between the two products, and this similarity in images used will create a link between the two products and when you think of one you will think of the other. This shows that there is clearly a good combination occurring with the two products

One of the main features which make the Products a good combination is the use of conventions. Both of the products have the artist name on them meaning they are both promoting the artist and this is a convention which is commonly found on both the advertisements and the digipacks. We usually see the release date of the actual album on the music advertisement magazine, and this links to the digipack as this is when the digipack will be released.

In terms of visually there is no direct link between the two ancillary products, due to their striking difference at first sight but when you look deeper, and through the more passive signs we see that there are various links which make the products a good combination of promoting both the artist and the album.

As shown in the images I have used the same font and nearly the same colour for the two products making them both promote the artist and this creates a common association, and both work together to force the information in to the audience so they will recognise that this is what chance the rapper is like.

This is a smaller form of the hypodermic needle model where the audience is forced in to thinking in a certain way through media, and in this I am trying to make the audience see that this is what the artist is like and I have used  the combination of the products to do so.

I have also ensured that the ancillary tasks have a link to the actual music video itself so it can be promoted by the ancillary products and make them all aim for the same purpose as a cross media convergence. The first link which I have used which makes them a good combination is the title sequence in the actual music video itself where I tell the audience the name of the song, I have used the same font as I did for the titles in the digipack and the Music magazine, so that when the audience watch this they will see that all the products are for the same artist. I have also used the same subjective meaning from the colours in the digipack as I did in the digipack. In the digipack I have used the colour purple to represent drug use, and then in the music video I have used the colour green to highlight the same thing. Over all these features create a great combination as they all support each other and the have the same purpose, in promoting the artist and his music.
